Low noise discrete microphone preamp D2O is a low noise discrete microphone preamp inspired by the famous German V series preamps of the 40's and 50's. D2O's general layout consists of a Lundahl 1538 input transformer followed by 2 single ended gain stages. Output drive is supplied by a discrete low impedance jFet buffer with superb sonic properties. D2O comes in two versions: A high gain all jFet design which is an ideal companion for ribbon microphones and a Hybrid tube/fet version. Quality Paper in oil coupling capacitors are used, all other used components are high-end grade aswell. Features: Low noise / low esr power supply In single ended preamp designs the quality of the power supply is crucial, D2O is fitted with a discrete low esr voltage regulator built with low noise components enabling optimal performance to the amplifier circuit. switchable transfomer ratio / input impedance By selecting the transformer ratio swich a selection between a 1:2.5 or 1:5 transformation ratio can be made. Besides setting voltage gain, this also switches the input impedance of the amplifier between 2.25KOhm and 9 KOhm. selectable feedback ratio sets gain and character The feedback ratio switch determines D2O's open loop amplification, besides amplification factor it also influences the preamps character. Less feedback (70dB position) means less supression of even order harmonics which is percieved by the human ear as a richer tone. when recording harmonically rich sources more feedback (50dB position) can be applied to achieve a more analytical sound.
